Introducing the EC50 – the Little Brother of the EC100!

We have some exciting news that we want to share about the 100EC.  Many of them have resulted in feedback we have received from you via the survey.  Please take a few minutes to review the changes.

  • We have added a 50-mile option (EC50) for those who are curious about running this urban ultramarathon but have concerns about the distance. Those registered for the EC50 will start in Norco and finish in Long Beach. The actual distance is 51.5 miles. The time limit is 14 hours. Please help us get the word out about this new option!
  • Based on feedback that we received from runners, we have changed the start time. The event now starts at 7am. (That’s one and a half hours earlier.)
  • The Runner/Crew walkthrough meeting will only be held on Friday (the night before the event). Here, you will take care of any remaining paperwork, receive your bib and goodie bag. We will not hold a similar meeting on the day of the event.
  • The course has been changed to start at the new 100 Mile Club® headquarters in Norco. (The old start location was near the old office in Corona.) Because of this change, nearly four miles was added to the course. But, don’t worry, we have made adjustments in Huntington Beach and San Pedro to shorten the course. The new distance is 101.6 miles (roughly 6/10 of a mile longer than the 2013 course).
  • We took this opportunity to relocate the 37.5 mile substation. In the past, parking was a problem at the location of the old 37.5 mile substation. It has been relocated to a parking lot near Victoria/Hamilton and Brookhurst, right off the Santa Ana River Trail (a mile or so from the ocean).
  • Because of the changes in San Pedro, S. Walker Ave. has been eliminated! (For those who have yet to experience this part of the course, Walker and the two streets that followed was were very steep and confusing.) Walker was an appropriate name for this street because that’s what you were forced to do – walk it!  This only applies to the EC100.
  • Many have asked that the circuitous bike trail near Dockweiler Beach be replaced with the more direct Vista Del Mar. Again, with the other course changes, we took this opportunity to make this update. The same goes for the Santa Ana River trail! You may now take the most-direct route along the river rather than following the bike route.
  • We have loosened the crew/pacer requirements while, we believe at the same time, ensuring everyone’s safety. As before, EC100 runners will not be allowed to continue if they don’t have a pacer at the 50-mile check-in station. However, runners won’t be required to have crew in a car. Adding more pacers and crew members with a car will increase your chances of finishing and likely improve your time.  EC50 runners can run without a pacer or crew!
  • We have added support for dropbags! Dropbags must be marked with your bib number and the mile marker; 12.5, 25, 37.5, 50, 62.5, 75, 87.5, finish. We take no responsibility for items left at the check-in stations. Clothes will be donated to charity. The rest will be thrown away. Please plan accordingly. ;-)
  • Team fundraising has been added! When signing up, you can specify a team name and when you do, the money your team raises will be pooled together when determining who has raised the most. Now, friends and family members can become fundraisers on your behalf!
